Tuesday Clutter: Trump, Vice President Harris, The Washington Post, Cheddar Cheese, New England Patriots, Jon Stewart, NCIS, Doctor Who, GH, Ghost, Willie Nelson, and more
10/29/2024
Hi everyone,
How are you? Week going okay so far? I had to help Dad Clutter yesterday, so today is all about catching up on the to-do list. BDH and Little Buddha told me not to worry about it. The guys think there's plenty of time to take care of everything, and I can always move the weekly trip to the bookstore to tomorrow if necessary. I tell you, nothing fazes these guys. They're always able to go with the flow. I want to be more like them.
Let's get to work and check out the headlines. There's a fresh pot of coffee on the counter, so grab yourself a nice medium DD, because it's time to clear out some Tuesday Clutter.
People continue to blast the anti-Latino and Puerto Rico comments a "comedian" made at Donald Trump's Madison Square Garden rally on Sunday. Someone named Tony Hinchcliffe made vulgar "jokes" about both communities. That did nothing but reinforce the reality that Trump and his supporters are Nazi sympathizers. Hinchcliffe didn't "hijack" the event - he was basically repeating Trump's racist rhetoric. The whole event was bizarre. Trump has zero chance of winning New York next Tuesday, so why even have this event, except to work in one last major ego boost before he loses yet again?
Trump is addicted to praise. He can never get enough and is always desperately looking for his next fix. This event was a terrible use of his time in the closing days of this campaign, and it did nothing to earn him a single new vote. If anything, it will cost him, because many of Hinchcliffe's targets will likely now give Vice President Harris their attention.
Trump is now making a low-energy move to claim he's not a Nazi. If you have to make that argument, you've already lost. Also, no one believes that. The MAGA cult would leave him if they thought it was true. From top to bottom, this hate rally screams "loser."

Vice President Kamala Harris will make her closing argument to voters during a speech at the Ellipse tonight. That's the spot where Donald Trump unleashed his violent supporters on the U.S. Capitol on January 6. The contrast is clear: If you support democracy, you cast your ballot for Vice President Harris.
Nikki Haley is delusional if she's really still waiting for a call for help from Donald Trump in the final week of the election. She's a woman who dared to call him out during the presidential primary. He's never going to forgive that "disloyalty." Haley should have known that right from the start, which makes her post-primary capitulation to Trump all the more embarrassing. No one in either political party feels a need to listen to her at this point. They'll both fight for her former supporters while leaving her out in the cold.
Congratulations to the over 200,000 people who have reportedly cancelled their Washington Post subscriptions after owner Jeff Bezos blocked the newspaper's endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris. Bezos is either a coward, or he's another billionaire just looking out for himself, or both. Either way, shame on him. We're hearing some pushback about whether or not cancellations the right call. From our perspective, consumers have every right to vote with their dollars. They're under no obligation to continue paying for something they find objectionable.
If the Post's actions broke their trust, this move makes sense for them. Hopefully they will move that money to another newspaper, because we still need a vibrant press. In the meantime, Bezos should be looking for a buyer for the Post, because his customers clearly don't want what he's selling now.
CNN.com has five suggestions for how to reduce your sugar consumption. Our crew understands that sugar is awful for our health, and we do try to be mindful about keeping our intake under control. However, we'll just say right now, we're probably going to take a hit on this front on Halloween. We intend to get back on track on Friday, though, because it really is terrible for you.
Thieves apparently stole over 48,000 pounds of high-end cheddar cheese from a major distributor. First off, this sounds like a major financial blow for Neal's Yard Dairy (the distributor in question), and we hope they're able to recover. Second, it also appears that this could lead to some long-lasting shortages in the cheese market. Finally, we're having a little difficulty imagining a life where you wake up one morning and think, "I know, let's steal a lot of cheese."
The Los Angeles Dodgers are leading the New York Yankees 3-0 in the World Series, and they could get the sweep in Game 4 tonight. No Red Sox fan should ever say a team can't come back from a 3-0 deficit, but man, we'd love to see the whole thing end tonight. You'd have Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts getting rings, while New York gets embarrassed? Yeah, we're here for that. Let's go, Dodgers!
While we wait for the World Series to end, MLB.com writer Ian Browne has seven questions for the Boston Red Sox this winter. Our biggest hope is that the Sox pay for an actual #1 starting pitcher and a right-handed power hitter (position TBD). We want to see the return of a commitment to winning from the owners, not yet another year of acting like the Red Sox are a small-market team.
We didn't get to mention this yesterday, but man, that New England Patriots win over the New York Jets on Sunday was fun. It seemed for sure that the Patriots would lose to the Jets for the second time this season, given the talent discrepancy between the two teams. However, we underestimated how sloppy the Jets are playing, and how tough the Patriots were, even after quarterback Drake Maye left the game because of a concussion. (Here's hoping that's not a major derailment for the young player.) The Patriots seemed determined to push back against head coach Jerod Mayo's recent assertion that they were playing "soft," and the results were impressive.
We're still not expecting this team to win many more games this season, but a worst-case scenario of 2-15 somehow sounds much better than 1-16. The fact that the victory came at Aaron Rodgers' expense made it all the more entertaining.
The Patriots are already looking past this season: The Pats traded linebacker Josh Uche to the Kansas City Chiefs for a 2026 6th-round draft pick yesterday. Uche showed some potential after being drafted by New England in 2020, but it never seemed to kick up to the next gear for him, which is why Kansas City had to give up so little in this deal. Maybe Chiefs coach Andy Reid and his staff can figure out how to unlock Uche's talen, but in any case, we wish him the best of luck.
One more NFL note: We didn't have a horse in this race, but Jayden Daniels' Hail Mary pass to end the Washington Commanders - Chicago Bears game has the be the strong leader in the race for "Play of the Year" so far, especially since the Bears had just taken their first lead of game mere seconds before that. Football is wild.
After seeing the trailer for Here, we didn't have high hopes for this reunion of Forrest Gump co-stars Tom Hanks and Robin Wright. The entire movie takes place in one room, which seemed gimmicky, and both actors were clearly "de-aged" to show the passage of time. Apparently our meager hopes for the film were too much: Boston Globe film critic Odie Henderson sounds pained to give Here even half a star. This sounds like something we can easily skip when it hits a streaming service.
We've got the first publicity photo for Jeremy Allen White's transformation into Bruce Springsteen for next year's biopic of the singer called, Deliver Me From Nowhere. What do you think?
We almost forgot that tonight is the season finale of Only Murders in the Building. Part of us wants to put off watching the episode so things won't be over. However, we also need to find out who the murderer is, so we'll probably rip off the band-aid. At least we'll still have FBI to watch on Tuesday nights.
Jon Stewart will reportedly stay on as the Monday host of The Daily Show through the end of 2025. Is that weird? It seems weird. Either bring Stewart back as the full-time host, or pick a new one. Not having one person consistently in the chair feels like the show is stuck in an overly-extended transition period.
Yesterday marked the one-year anniversary of Matthew Perry's passing after a drug overdose.
Last night's NCIS episode was as far as cases go. A guy was killed in a house he thought contained some treasure. Not exactly gripping. The real point of the night seemed to be setting up/advancing story-lines for Alden Parker, Jessica Knight and Jimmy Palmer, and Nick Torres. We didn't love all of that being crammed into one week, but we'll see where things go from here.
(We didn't get to see NCIS: Origins, so let's discuss that tomorrow.)
Happy belated birthday to former Doctor Who star Matt Smith! The 11th Doctor turned 42 years old yesterday, and RadioTimes.com celebrated by looking back at what they consider to be his best moment as the Doctor. We'd have to give that a little thought, but the scene in question is one of our favorite moments of the show's modern era, so we're inclined to agree.
There's another casting change coming to General Hospital, but this one sounds like a short-term move. We actually wouldn't mind seeing this character sent out of Port Charles for an extended hiatus. They feel stale and could use a refresh/make-over after being out of sight for a while.
The lawsuits against Sean Combs just keep coming: The music mogul is now accused of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old boy in 2005.
Ghost announced a world tour for next year, and it includes a stop in Boston on July 21. We'll have to make a note of that on the calendar.
The Who will also apparently be hitting the road again next year.
Okay kids, that's going to do it for now. Here's Willie Nelson to close things out with his cover of the Beck tune, "Lost Cause" for today's, "Song of the Day."
Man, Willie is a treasure.
Thanks for stopping by, folks. It was great to see you, as always. Enjoy the rest of your day, be good, and we'll catch up with you again soon. Until next time, that's today's Clearing out the Clutter, and we are outta here.
