Monday Clutter: Trump, Male Birth Control Gel, Boston Red Sox, Ryan Reynolds, NCIS, Doctor Who, Kate Hudson, Jennifer Lopez, Crowded House, and more

Hi everyone,

Welcome back.  I hope you had a good weekend.  It's been a hectic stretch here.  Dad Clutter had a health issue last week, and everything turned into a blur after that.  Fortunately, he's doing much better now, so hopefully things will calm down a bit for a while.  Thank you in advance for your patience if our schedule has some bumps here and there.

BDH and Little Buddha have been listening to the chirping birds this morning, and what they're hearing is that we have more nice weather coming today.  That's always a good way to start a new week.  Let's keep the momentum going by checking out the headlines.  The guys made coffee, so grab yourself a nice medium DD, because it's time to clear out some Monday Clutter.

We have teamed up with Clearly Balanced Days, a NH-based/women-owned CBD company.  Enter promo code "cmoore" to get $5 off your next purchase!

Of course the big news since the last time we all gathered here was Donald Trump's conviction last week on all 34 felony counts in his NY hush money case.  Remember that this was considered by some to be the weakest legal case against Trump.  However, the jury had no problem understanding the facts and unanimously voting to hold Trump accountable for his criminal behavior.  This is why he's so desperately trying to postpone all of these trials - he knows he'll be found guilty if they actually take place.  Now we wait for the sentencing hearing on July 11.  The man should sent to prison.

Trump responded to the guilty verdicts with yet another rambling speech on Friday attacking the judicial system for daring to find him guilty.

Donald Trump is explicitly begging the U.S. Supreme Court to save him before his sentencing hearing on July 11.  If Chief Justice John Roberts cared one iota about the integrity of the court, Trump's call for help would be immediately rejected.  However, the rot on this bench is deep, so we'll have to wait and see about the response.

Following his felony convictions, Donald Trump is now falsely claiming he never called for Hillary Clinton to be locked up ahead of the 2016 presidential election.  That's demonstrably untrue, of course, and we know Fox News and the rest of the right-wing media will never push back on that lie.  However, we have to ask, are there any Trump supporters who will acknowledge that his story is nonsense?  They heard him say it eight years ago.  They repeated it back to him.  Can any of them engage in 10 seconds of independent thinking to grasp that as he lied about this, he's lied about everything else?

Meanwhile, a new ABC News/IPSOS poll shows 49% of Americans think Trump should now end his presidential campaign.  The MAGA cult may stick with him no matter what, but there are still millions of voters who don't want a felon in the White House.  Trump and his fascist movement must be defeated in November for the sake of our country's future.  If he is allowed to survive all of his current legal problems, there will be nothing able to keep him in check in a second term.

We're sorry to hear that Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.  We wish the progressive champion the best with her fight.

Congratulations to former Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum, who is expected to become Mexico's first female president.  Sheinbaum received an estimated 58.3 % - 60.7% of the vote, which would be a new record for the country.

Huh, the NSA agrees that restarting your phone weekly is a good security measure.  We hadn't really thought about that one before, but considering we do it to our computer to help with performance, it makes sense that it would also be a good practice for one's phone.

It sounds like progress is being made on a safe and effective male birth control gel.  According to the linked article, the current trial involves rubbing about a teaspoon of the substance into your shoulders every day.  That feels like something we should be able to handle, guys.  Hopefully the results will continue to be positive.

The Boston Red Sox lost 8-4 to the Detroit Tigers in 10 innings yesterday, in what was a particularly disappointing loss.  The Sox were up 3-0 after three innings.  However, starter Bryan Bello eventually allowed four runs by the end of the 7th.  Boston then tied up the game, thanks to a clutch home run from Rafael Devers in the 8th.  The Sox had a chance for an amazing ending when Jamie Westbrook made his major league debut (after 11 years in the minors) with runners on first and second, with two outs, in the ninth inning.  Talk about pressure in your first appearance.

Westbrook worked a walk, but Connor Wong then flied out to right to send the game to extra innings.  The Tigers then got to reliever Cam Booser for four runs in the 10th, and that was the game.  The Red Sox had a great chance for a series win this weekend, but they had to settle for a split, and they're now back at .500 for the season (30-30).  They have today off, and then the Atlanta Braves come back to town for another quick series that starts on Tuesday.

The Washington Commanders released kicker Brandon McManus just days after he was accused in a lawsuit of sexually assaulting two women.  The plaintiffs say the alleged incident took place on the Jacksonville Jaguars' flight to London in 2023 while McManus played for Jacksonville.  Washington had a well-documented toxic work environment under the previous ownership, and you have to think the new bosses will be quick to distance the organization from any stories like this moving forward.

Ryan Reynolds released a NSFW clip promoting the new Deadpool and Wolverine popcorn bucket.  No word about the price yet, but our guess is that these bad boys won't last long when the movie hits theaters on July 26.

TVInsider.com talked to NCIS co-showrunner Stephen D. Binder about the end of Season 21, and what lies ahead next fall.  We still don't think Agent Knight's departure from the team is permanent.  Longtime fans of the show will remember back when Gibbs "quit" at the end of Season 3, but he eventually returned early the following year.  Our money says this ends up being a similar storyline.  What's your guess?

Den of Geek asks an important Doctor Who question:  Fans know that she's appearing in every episode this season (even if we don't know why yet), but how come the Doctor never looks directly at Susan Twist?  Is that something meaningful in and of itself?  We have three episodes left to find out the answer.

Kate Hudson talked to Variety about launching her music career.  You might remember we featured Hudson's cover of STP's "Vasoline" here a few weeks ago.  Gotta say, she nailed it.  The actress can also legitimately sing, and we look forward to hearing more from her.

Jennifer Lopez cancelled her 2024 North American tour, following disappointing ticket sales.  We're not the world's biggest J-Lo fans, but the unrestrained glee that some have expressed at this news is disturbing.  A lot of people hate successful women.

With all of the recent craziness, we almost forgot that Alex Van Halen's instrument/gear/memorabilia auction started on Saturday.  We just took a quick look at the catalog, and it's an impressive collection.  The auction runs through June 9, so hopefully we'll get a moment at some point to figure out if there's anything we can bid on, like maybe some old backstage passes or something.

Lizzy Hale recently performed her final concert with Skid Row.  We know the Halestorm front woman was only filling in for four shows after the band's last singer left, but she crushed it.  Pretty sure the band's fans would have no complaints whatsoever if she ended up doing a longer stint.

Okay kids, that's going to do it for now.  Let's have Crowded House close things out with, "The Howl" for today's, "Song of the Day."

Thanks for stopping by, folks.  It was great to see you, as always.  Enjoy the rest of your day, be good, and we'll catch up with you again soon.  Until next time, that's today's Clearing out the Clutter, and we are outta here.
