No joke, we were just discussing at yesterday's staff meeting that we couldn't find much to be excited about when it comes to January. It's dark, cold, and the snow isn't going away anytime soon. More than anything, it feels like a month that just has to be endured.
Well, scratch that, because now we have confirmation that series 12 of Doctor Who starts on January 1, 2020! That's how you kick off a new year in style. The series premiere is a two-parter called, "Spyfall," with the rest of the episodes airing on Sundays. The BBC just released another trailer to announce the date, and it's like a bonus early Christmas present. The video has a number of the same scenes as the first trailer, but two things popped out at us: 1) It hammers home the idea of high stakes, and that tension was largely missing from series 11. (What does, "Welcome to the end of your lives" mean? Are we talking about just the Doctor or the whole group? Also, who is saying that?)
More importantly, it looks like we're going to get some character development for #13! (We can't wait to find out why she says, "You don't know me." This Doctor's generally cheerful, and that's fine, but is there still an edge in there somewhere?) That, and a better use of the revised TARDIS interior (which appeared in the first trailer), were the two main things we were hoping for in Jodie Whittaker's second go-around as the Doctor, and it looks like our hopes will be fulfilled.
Of course, there's only one way to find out for sure, and that's to tune in on January 1, 2020!
