Monday Clutter: Trump, Elizabeth Warren, Gloria Vanderbilt, Bill Cosby, Boston Red Sox, Guns N' Roses, Don Henley, and more

Hi everyone,

Welcome back!  Come on in, have a seat.  Sorry we're late.  I've tried several times over the last few weeks to get the Clutter Car detailed, but the local place doesn't take appointments, and every time I went, they told me it would either be a three-hour wait, or they couldn't take me that day.  I was determined to finally get it done, so I showed up about 30 minutes before they opened this morning.  Success!  I treated myself to a haircut after that, and BDH and Little Buddha think I and the car both look good, which is a nice way to start the week.  It also helps that the guys made coffee.  Grab yourself a nice medium DD, and let's clear out some Monday Clutter.

Donald Trump is telling his supporters to ignore the polls that show him losing in a number of key states, even though some of those numbers come from his own campaign.  We expect that message to resonate pretty well with his base.  They're not a particularly "reality-based" group to begin with, so this lie seems tailor-made for them to swallow without an ounce of critical thought.

However, Democrats know full well not to take those numbers for granted.  The 2020 elections are still about 20 political lifetimes from now, and a lot can change over the next year.  (It's also plenty of time for Trump's allies in foreign countries to continue interfering in our election process with the Great Pumpkin's blessing.) That's why Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) isn't hyping the fact that she's rising in the polls.   It turns out voters like it when you give them detailed plans explaining how you'll help working families.  Who knew?  However, complacency will take out any campaign at the knees.

Another pressing concern about 2020 is that Trump keeps talking about not leaving office even if he serves eight years, and in this insane world, that threat needs to be taken seriously.

We're sorry to hear that fashion designer Gloria Vanderbilt died at her home this morning. Ms. Vanderbilt was also the mother of CNN anchor Anderson Cooper, and our condolences go out to him, as well as the rest of her family and friends.  She was 95 years old.

He's in prison for sexual assault, but Bill Cosby still decided to send out a Father's Day tweet calling for men to recommit to their families. To think he's still in a position to be a moral scold is so disconnected from reality, perhaps a few years in a hospital should be added to Cosby's sentence.

The Dunkin' mothership is teaming up with GrubHub for a delivery service that starts in NYC today and will eventually spread throughout the country.  We won't be using the service, since there's at least one DD within a 15 minute walk in every direction from us, but drop us a line at [email protected] and share your reviews if you give it a try.

The Boston Red Sox beat the Baltimore Orioles 8-6 in 10 innings to sweep their weekend series yesterday.  There's a lot to feel good about here.  The Sox have won five games in a row (their longest winning streak of 2019), they are now five games over .500 (39-34) for the first time this season, and they are 5 1/2 games behind the New York Yankees in the AL East.  Yes, the bullpen coughed up a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the 8th inning, but the Sox offense hung in there to tie the game in the ninth and break through for five runs in the 10th (even if Baltimore did score another three runs at the end.)  That shows the kind of resiliency that will serve them well if they can keep it up for the rest of the season.  Things now get much more difficult, as the Sox take on the Minnesota Twins who currently have the best winning percentage (.671) in baseball.  Rick Porcello takes the mound for Boston in the series opener tonight.

Are we interested to hear that a Hunger Games prequel is coming out in 2020?

Guns N' Roses are going back out on the road this fall.  None of the concerts are anywhere near Clutter Headquarters.  Anyone want to go on a road trip?

Sorry Ghost fans, it sounds like it's going to be a while until the next album.

Okay kids, that's going to do it for now.  The sun is shining, and the birds are chirping.  This seems like a good time to have Don Henley close things out with, "Boys of Summer," for today's, "Song of the Day."

Thanks for stopping by, everyone.  It was great to see you, as always.  Enjoy the rest of your day and the nice weather, be good, and we'll catch up with you again for more fun soon.  Until next time, that's today's Clearing out the Clutter, and we are outta here.
