Check out the "Fast & Furious Presents Hobbs & Shaw" Trailer

As the arctic winds pass through the area, and we check the weather forecasts for any indications of snow, it's easy to let the mind wander with thoughts of warmer temperatures.  There are many things to look forward to about the summer, and after watching the first trailer, we can now add, Fast & Furious Presents Hobbs & Shaw to the list.

The franchise that simply will not die is back with its first ever spinoff, featuring Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson and Jason Statham as Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw respectively.  The two rivals must team together to defeat cyber-genetically enhanced super-villain Brixton, played by Idris Elba.  Between the three of them, that's enough testosterone to power a NFL team.  We've also got The Crown's Vanessa Kirby playing MI6 agent Hattie Shaw (Deckard's sister.)

Our first thought after watching this trailer is that this looks more like something out of the Marvel Universe than a Fast & Furious movie.  We're not seeing any illegal street racing here.  We'll see how complicated the plot ends up being, but while Johnson and Statham are reprising past roles, the odds are pretty good you won't need to know any history beforehand.  This movie looks like it will be a fun way to pass some time in a cool theater and enjoy the A/C while you watch over-the-top fight scenes and Johnson and Statham trading quips.  It may not win an Oscar, but Hobbs & Shaw will probably do just fine at the box off this year.

Hobbs & Shaw will be out in theaters on August 2.
