January 2019

After a three-month hiatus, late night talk show host Conan O'Brien is back on TBS with his revamped program, and it doesn't appear that he's missed a beat. The new format is only thirty minutes long, and it will feature more remote segments instead of celebrity interviews. This should mean Conan can be a little more laid-back. So far, the initial results are promising. The Brookline native recently visited the Samuel Adams Brewery in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, and it was a trip. First, Conan had an extended conversation with Jim Koch about the history of beer. Second, he made things... Read more →

Hi everyone, Welcome back! How's your week going? We're all doing well here at the moment, particularly since January is almost over. I will admit that my excitement for going outside later is, shall we say, not high. BDH and Little Buddha point out that least we don't live in the Midwest, and I'll be fine as long as I wear enough layers. Five should do, right? They just smile when I ask questions like that. Fortunately, they also make terrific coffee. There's a fresh pot on the table, so help yourself to a nice medium DD, because it's time... Read more →

Hi everyone, Welcome back! Come on in, have a seat. We were just watching the plows go up and down the street. There's definitely some shoveling that needs to happen, but it doesn't look like it should be "that" bad. Famous last words, right? BDH and Little Buddha just told me there's a warning about snow squalls later this afternoon, so I'm not sure how that's going to impact today's errands. Hmm, it's like it's winter or something. Well, let's see what's going on in today's headlines. The guys made you some coffee, so help yourself to a nice medium... Read more →

Hi everyone, Welcome back! Come on in, have a seat. How are you? BDH and Little Buddha were just reminding me to get the shovel out of the car before it snows later today/tonight. Sounds like I might want to also do some stretching beforehand. Well, I'll take care of that later. Otherwise, everything is going fine here at the moment. The guys say the coffee is ready, so help yourself to a nice medium DD, because it's time to clear out some Tuesday Clutter. Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker said yesterday that the Mueller investigation is "close to being... Read more →

The Van Halen camp has been trying to build some buzz about a possible tour, but Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony have already jumped out in front of them this year. The former Van Halen singer and bassist have joined up with guitarist Vic Johnson (who plays in Hagar's solo band) and drummer Jason Bonham (son of the legendary John Bonham) to form The Circle, and they've just released their first single, "Trust Fund Baby." Let's get the weak part out of the way first. This is not a lyrically strong song. "Entourage going strong, hangers on hanging on, everything... Read more →

Hi everyone, Welcome back, and a happy Monday to you all. We were just looking at the weather forecast and trying to figure out if we will have to work around it again this week. Looks like things should generally be fine (if a bit chilly), but next week has snow/snow showers listed from Monday to the following Monday. I guess February is planning on keeping us on our toes. Oh well, we'll deal with that later. In the meantime, BDH and Little Buddha made some coffee, so help yourself to a nice medium DD, and let's clear out some... Read more →

Hi everyone, Welcome back! Come on in, have a seat. How are you? We were just trying to figure out what to today since there's no football this week. BDH and Little Buddha seem to think this would be a good day to do a laundry. Not sure if they're trying to tell me something, but they're right. However, let's see what's going on in today's headlines first. The guys made some coffee, so help yourself to a nice medium DD, because it's time to clear out some Sunday Clutter. The 2020 presidential election is still a long ways off... Read more →

Hi everyone, Welcome back for another chat about A Million Little Things! Sorry we're late this week. The crazy weather messed up our viewing plans, but we're back on track now. Before we go any further, ICYMI, show creator DJ Nash tweeted that the season finale is on February 28, so mark your calendars. There's still no word about a season 2 yet, but we'll deal with that later. For now, let's talk about this week's episode... Warning: Spoilers ahead Observations: As the episode title indicates, we're getting a look at everyone's lives the day before Jon Dixon took his... Read more →

Hi everyone, Welcome back! Come on in, have a seat. I'm sorry we missed you yesterday. Pretty sure that we'll be around tomorrow, but BDH and Little Buddha didn't want to take any chances that we might go three straight days without hanging out with you, so here we are! The guys made a fresh pot of coffee, so help yourself to a nice medium DD, and let's clear out some Saturday Clutter. The longest government shutdown in U.S. history is over, after Donald Trump agreed to sign a short-term spending bill that doesn't include any money for his wall... Read more →

2019: A Letter To My Mom

Hi Ma, It's that time once again. Today marks the five-year anniversary of your death. I am still split whether it feels like it happened yesterday, or if it's been an eternity. I guess the correct answer is, "yes." It's been a while since I've written to you, so I thought I'd check in for a bit. Donald Trump is still in the White House, setting all sorts of records for lies and finding new ways to damage the country each day. You would be angry like the rest of us, but you would have expressed that outrage and advocated... Read more →
