There's been some silliness on the Internet recently (shocking, right?), as rumors were circulating that showrunner Chris Chibnall and star Jodie Whittaker would be leaving Doctor Who at the end of series 11. The story was no doubt some wishful thinking put out by a sad guy who's still irate that the Doctor is now "a girl." However, we can put the rumors to rest, because Jodie Whittaker confirmed that she'll be back for series 12.
This is great news, as Whittaker has done a fantastic job making her mark as the 13th Doctor this year. The ratings reflect that, as they are close to being the highest of the modern era. We'll see how things play out with the New Year's Day special, but Chibnall and company have reset the series like they set out to do. There's still more work to be done to flesh out Whittaker's version of the Time Lord, and it's terrific that she (along with the also-returning Bradley Walsh, Mandip Gill, and Tosin Cole) will get that room to work with. We're excited to see how this crew develops further from here, even if it means another agonizingly-long wait between series. (As it turns out, the wait will be until some time in "early 2020.")
