(Review) The Thirteenth Doctor: The Many Lives of Doctor Who
10/25/2018
It's great to finally have the Doctor back in action. After what felt like years of waiting, #13 and her friends jumped right into the action, and the new era is off to a strong start. The problem is that it leaves us even more impatient for each week's new episode to arrive. That's why we recently treated ourselves to The Thirteenth Doctor: The Many Lives of Doctor Who, from Titan Comics, to help pass some time between shows.
Written by Richard Dinnick, and beautifully drawn by a number of illustrators, The Many Lives takes place right as #12 is regenerating into #13. It appears she's having a conversation with herself about where she's been and what the future holds. That leads us to brand new adventures featuring each of her previous incarnations. What comes across is the idea that while her exterior may change, she's always been the same Time Lord, seeking to help those who need the assistance. Dinnick does a terrific job of capturing the voices of all of the Doctors, and the artists each bring a different approach to their stories.
This is something both old and new fans of the TV show can enjoy. It's also a helpful peek into Titan's Doctor Who world, which is not exactly the same as the one on television, and we encourage you to check out Titan's other titles. The comic book is both a celebration of the past and an exciting start to the future, which makes it a fitting companion to the new series. If you also find yourself antsy for the next adventure to begin, you will enjoy The Many Lives of Doctor Who.
