Monday Clutter: Brett Kavanaugh's Accuser Comes Forward, Soon-Yi Previn, Carrie Underwood, Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, Joaquin Phoenix, Dave Matthews, and more
09/17/2018
Hi everyone,
Welcome back! Come on in, have a seat. Anywhere you like is fine. BDH, Little Buddha, and I were just looking at today's to-do list. It's a little longer than I expected. The guys say we're supposed to get a good amount of rain tomorrow (the remnants of Hurricane Florence), so maybe I should focus on whatever needs to be done outside today and then tackle the rest of the list tomorrow. They're so smart, I don't know where I'd be without them. Of course, the first thing we need to do is check out today's headlines. The coffee is ready, so help yourself to a nice medium DD, because it's time to clear out some Monday Clutter.
The woman who accused Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault has come forward, and now the GOP has to decide if they have any kind of moral core before his scheduled Supreme Court confirmation vote takes place on Thursday. Even if they're lacking that core, will the politics of the #MeToo movement force Republicans to reconsider this nomination? It's cowardly for Republican senators to say now that professor Christine Blasey Ford should now have to speak before the Senate Judiciary Committee. She's already made her statement, and she's not on trial. It took incredible courage for Ford to make herself known to the public, knowing the attacks she would likely face, and the ramifications of the next few days will be felt for a long time to come.

Shame on the website Vulture for having a longtime friend of Woody Allen's write a profile of his wife Soon-Yi Previn. It's important for Previn to be able to tell her side of the story about her controversial relationship with Allen, but the piece should have been written by someone with an objective perspective, and this article immediately loses credibility because of the conflict of interest.
Trump voters apparently don't see a blue wave coming. That's fine, let them all stay home in November.
Time Inc. is being sold for $190 million in cash. The company was just purchased by Meredith Corporation in January, and now it's being sold to billionaires Marc and Lynne Benioff. Have no fear, Clutterheads, we are still not for sale, and that's not going to change. If anyone wants to send us a few dollars so that we can buy more coffee for everyone, that would be great (you can email us at [email protected] for more details), but we're an independent operation here, and we intend to stay that way.
We applaud Carrie Underwood for revealing she's had multiple miscarriages over the last two years. It takes immense courage to discuss something so personal in public, and her comments will likely help others who have dealt with the same situation.
The Boston Red Sox beat the New York Mets 4-3 yesterday for their 103rd win of the year, and another series victory. Chris Sale had a good outing for Boston, giving up just one hit and no runs over three innings. The lefty said he felt good after the game, so it appears this conservative approach to his starts is working well at the moment. We didn't love seeing Mookie Betts leave in the sixth inning with soreness on his left side, but it sounds like he'll be back in action tomorrow. Speaking of which, the win reduced the Red Sox magic number to two. They have today off, and then they start a three-game series on the road against the New York Yankees on Tuesday, which means all Boston has to do is win one out of the three games to clinch the AL East. You have to imagine Yankee fans will handle that well, right? Nathan Eovaldi takes the mound for Boston tomorrow afternoon.
The New England Patriots lost 31-20 to the Jacksonville Jaguars yesterday in a game that didn't even seem as close as the score would indicate. New England's defense couldn't stop Jacksonville's offense, as the Jags marched up and down the field with little difficulty all day. On the other side of the ball, Tom Brady and company were frustrated all afternoon by the vaunted Jacksonville defense, and this never felt like a competitive game. It was ugly, but as we tried to remind Dad Clutter, we had similar feelings about the Patriots at the start of last season, so we'll see what adjustments Bill Belichick and company make moving forward. Next up, the Pats take on old friend Matt Patricia and the Lions in Detroit on Sunday night.
Of course, it could have been worse: Buffalo Bills cornerback Vontae Davis retired at halftime during yesterday's game against the Los Angeles Chargers. Apparently Davis saw the road ahead for playing with the Bills and decided he wanted nothing to do with it.
Hey Batman fans, what do you think of this first look at Joaquin Phoenix's Joker?
Okay kids, that's going to do it for now. Let's ease into the new week with some Dave Matthews Band and, "Where Are You Going," for today's, "Song of the Day."
