Sunday Clutter: Trump Cruelty, Paul Manafort, Chris Hardwick, Tom Brady Retirement, Wonder Woman, Jay-Z and Beyonce Album, and more
06/17/2018
Hi everyone,
Welcome back! How are you? The birds are chirping up a storm. They've been at it since sometime around 4:30 this morning. I would have been annoyed, but BDH and Little Buddha think they're talking about the new flowers we have in the garden, so I guess I can't be too cranky about that. Before we go any further, we want to wish all of the dads out there (especially Dad Clutter) a very happy Father's Day! For those who find the day challenging for whatever reason, we're thinking of you, and we hope you do something good for yourself today. Speaking of good things, the guys say that the coffee is ready (and it's a little stronger than usual.) Help yourself to a nice medium DD, and let's clear out some Sunday Clutter.
While the Trump administration disgraces the country in a variety of ways every day, we can't think of a more repulsive action than removing almost 2000 immigrant children from their parents over the last six weeks. That's not a policy tool, it's pure cruelty against people who have committed no crime, and the damage to these children may end up being permanent. We urge everyone to contact their members of Congress and let them know that you oppose such inhumane actions.
Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort was sent to jail for witness tampering before his trial on a variety of charges, including money laundering, begins. Trump has already complained about the "unfair" sentence, but how long until he pulls his usual move and starts claiming he barely knows Manafort and rarely ever spoke to him? Oh wait, that already happened.
It's disappointing to find out that Chris Hardwick has been accused of emotionally abusive and professionally vindictive behavior by an ex-girlfriend. We're not surprised by anyone being named at this point, but we've always enjoyed Hardwick anytime he's been involved in a Doctor Who show. Speaking of which, Hardwick was supposed to moderate the first-ever panel appearance of the new Doctor Who cast at Comic-Con next month, but that's one of many gigs that he's being removed from now.
The National Institutes of Health is shutting down a study about the possible benefits of moderate alcohol consumption, because it turns out that the study is funded by the alcohol industry. Can't imagine why that might present a conflict of interest.
It's too bad that the woman who was found guilty of abusing 75 Great Danes managed to avoid jail time. We would have thrown the book at her.
Scientists say dogs might be able to teach us some things about obesity.
The Boston Red Sox lost 1-0 to the Seattle Mariners last night. Steven Wright gave up the one run and just five hits over seven innings, but Seattle's Wade LeBlanc gave up two hits and no walks over 7 2/3 innings for the W. The Sox will try to salvage a series split when Eduardo Rodriguez takes the mound for Boston this afternoon.
Tom Brady told Oprah that retirement is, "sooner rather than later," in a new interview. To some extent, New England Patriots fans are already living on borrowed time with Brady. While he could prove to be the exception, history says that the end comes quickly for NFL quarterbacks who are at least 40 years old. On the other hand, #12 was talking about playing for another 10 years up until recently, so if he's got retirement on the brain now, it looks like he screwed the New England Patriots over if he pushed them to trade Jimmy Garoppolo because he said he'd still be playing for years to come.
It finally happened: Jay-Z and Beyonce released a joint album. It's amazing that two of the biggest artists today could drop a surprise record on the world.

Gail Godot gave the world its first look at her costume for the upcoming Wonder Woman sequel.
Lucifer lives! That's not as worrisome as some might interpret it. We're just saying Netflix picked up the show for a 4th season after it was recently cancelled by Fox.
John Travolta's movie about John Gotti is finally out, and the reviews are...not "good."
Sorry to hear that blues guitarist Matt "Guitar" Murphy died on Friday. Murphy played with a variety of musicians over the years, ranging from the Blues Brothers to Muddy Waters. He was 88 years old. Our condolences go out to his family, friends, and fans.
Okay kids, that's going to do it for now. Let's see how this Jay-Z/Beyonce pairing worked out. Here are the Carters with, "Apes**t," for today's, "Song of the Day."
What did you think?
Thanks for stopping by, everyone. It was great to see you, as always. It's supposed to be a beautiful day, so enjoy the great weather, stay out of trouble, and we'll see you back here again for more fun soon. Until next time, that's today's Clearing out the Clutter, and we are outta here.
