Friday Clutter: Trump, Koko the Gorilla, Boston Red Sox, The Conners, Johnny Depp, Summer Song, and more
06/22/2018
Hi everyone,
Welcome back, and a happy Friday to you all! This week flew by in a hurry. Do you have any big plans for the weekend? BDH and Little Buddha picked up two new books and they're taking turns reading the first one, so I expect that to keep them busy for a while. The second one is a little longer, so I might need to help them with it. I see rain in the forecast over the next couple of days, so that might be our main activity while the Clutter Tree and garden hopefully get a good soaking. For now, let's check out today's headlines. The guys made coffee, so help yourself to a nice medium DD, because it's time to clear out some Clutter.
First Lady Melania Trump wore a jacket that said, "I really don't care. Do U?" while she visited children who are being detained at the U.S. - Mexico border. That might be the first honest statement that's ever come from this administration. There are some who would blame her staff for such poor judgment, but anyone who would work for this circus would have seen no problem with that choice. Plus, it's not like she missed some subtle nuance that only a seasoned political operative would have spotted. We can stop pretending that this woman is any better than the rest of them.
When he's not authorizing the destruction and imprisonment of migrant families, Donald Trump is busy going after poor and working-class Americans, to the squealing delight of conservatives. Consider this analysis of his latest plan to slash the safety net:
“There is a contempt for the poor that seems to permeate the president’s inner circle that seems very worrying,” (NYU professor Philip G. Alston) said. “It’s done under the banner of providing opportunity and seeking long-term solutions but it all seems designed to increase misery.”
A new poll says the American public is moving towards supporting Trump's impeachment. No wonder the Great Pumpkin is doing everything in his power to appease his racist and misogynistic base to get them to vote in November - his future is hanging on it. Democrats in DC might not want to talk about impeachment now, but that conversation is coming whether they like it or not.
We're sad to hear that Koko the gorilla died on Tuesday. We remember being fascinated by the footage of her playing with her cat and the time she hung out with Robin Williams. Maybe the three of them are having some fun together now. Koko greatly expanded the world's understanding of animals' abilities to communicate through her mastery of sign language, and she seemed like a sweet soul. Koko the gorilla was 46 years old. Our condolences go out to everyone whose lives she touched.

There's a new study out about the heart benefits of coffee, so drink up, Clutterheads. We want you hanging out with us for a long time to come!
The Boston Red Sox beat the Minnesota Twins 9-2 yesterday, to end their marathon 10-game road trip with a 6-4 final record. Rick Porcello had a dominant outing, giving up just one hit and one walk over seven shutout innings. The sleepy Sox offense erupted for 16 hits, including home runs from Mookie Betts and Andrew Benintendi. The Sox are finally home again for a stretch, and it begins with Steven Wright taking the mound against the Seattle Mariners tonight.
The NBA Draft was last night, so talk to us, Boston Celtics fans: How are we feeling about the C's drafting Robert Williams?
There was some clip on the NFL Network yesterday about Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston wanting to be a leader this season. Maybe it was an ad for the new season of Hard Knocks. Anyway, that leadership thing will have to wait, because it looks like Winston is going to be suspended by the NFL.
Roseanne Barr is gone, but apparently The Conners live on. Will you watch?
This new Rolling Stone Johnny Depp interview is a sad read, and one wonders if there's any way for him to climb out of his current hole. It's hard to imagine spending $650 million, but it's also a little difficult to imagine being in a position to make that much money in the first place. Seems like things would almost be destined to go sideways if you don't have a strong support system around you.
Anyone here looking for a new Austin Powers movie? Yeahhhh baby. Actually, we'd be more into a Wayne's World reboot, but maybe that's just us.
Okay kids, that's going to do it for now. Since it's officially summer and everything, that means it's time to break out a long-time personal favorite tune. Here's guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani to close things out with, "Summer Song," for today's, "Song of the Day."
Hmm, maybe that should be the song every Friday this summer.
Thanks for stopping by, everyone. It was great to see you, as always. Enjoy the rest of your day (and the sun), be good, and we'll meet up again for more fun soon. Until next time, that's today's Clearing out the Clutter, and we are outta here.
