Monday Clutter: Trump, Neil deGrasse Tyson, March Madness, Black Panther 2, Crazy Train, and more
03/12/2018
Hi everyone,
Welcome back! How are you? Changing the clocks yesterday threw me off a little more than I expected. It felt a bit like jet lag all day. However, it was great not to have to turn on the lights until 7:00. Got a solid night's sleep, and now we should be good to go today...so we can deal with tomorrow's forecast for another nor'easter. Hold on...BDH and Little Buddha say to ignore that for now and focus on the headlines and coffee. Got it. The guys made you a fresh pot, so help yourself to a nice medium DD, and let's clear out some Clutter.
Look at that - Donald Trump told Congress not to be afraid of the NRA right after the Florida school shooting, and now he's already pulling back from that stance. Who could have possibly seen that coming? Trump claims to still support a few more moderate gun control proposals, but give him a little more time, and he'll get to the the world's most predictable complete retreat.
This Axios.com article makes Donald Trump sound manic over the past week, and it leaves the impression that no one in the White House knows what he's going to do next. The fact that we haven't all been blown up by this man-child still seems like an impressive accomplishment.
Education Secretary Betsy DeVos made it clear in yesterday's 60 Minutes interview that she still has no business being in her current position. The billionaire was unqualified when she was first appointed, and she hasn't improved one iota after more than a year in the job.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is under fire for his anti-Semitic claim that perhaps Jews and other minorities are responsible for the interference in the 2016 election. Wonder how long it will take for his puppet, the Great Pumpkin, to adopt this vile argument.
Neil deGrasse Tyson would like to make it clear that the Earth is still round. The fact that we're having this conversation in the year 2018 is a glaring indictment of this country's educational system. Thanks, Secretary DeVos.
Yup, still round. (pic via time.com)
Facebook says it wants to be friends with publishers, even as it continues to drive them out of business. We have to admit, we don't know what the right answer is when it comes to the social media behemoth. Their increasing dominance of how people get their information feels problematic, both in terms of "fake" and "legitimate" articles, but who on Earth would trust Congress with anything resembling appropriate regulation (however you define that?) Also, we'd be hypocritical if we didn't remind you that we've got our own Facebook page, which we hope you'll check out, because BDH and Little Buddha always like visitors.
We join the Boston Red Sox in wishing the best for closer Craig Kimbrel's 4-month-old daughter Lydia Joy, who just underwent her second heart surgery.
Jake Arrieta finally found a home. The 2016 NL Cy Young Award winner is reportedly about to sign with the Philadelphia Phillies.
The 2018 March Madness field has been announced, so print your brackets now (for entertainment purposes only, of course.) Who's your pick to win it all? The stakes are higher at Berkshire Hathaway. Warren Buffett has offered $1 million a year for life to any employee who has a perfect bracket.
It's disappointing to hear that WWE superstar Jeff Hardy was arrested for drunk driving over the weekend. Hardy has battled substance abuse issues over the years, but it seemed like he'd been doing well for a while.
Nothing has officially been announced yet, but with a global box office of over $1 billion (and counting), you can bet there's going to be a Black Panther 2.
Sorry, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency fans, it looks like time's up for the show.
Okay kids, that's going to do it for now. There's no getting around the fact that this snowstorm is coming, so all we can do is just push through it, hope that the Clutter Tree makes it through in once piece, and remember that one way or another, spring will eventually get here at some point. Here to help get us in the right mindset is Ozzy Osbourne with, "Crazy Train," for today's, "Song of the Day."
Thanks for stopping by, everyone. It was great to see you, as always. Enjoy the rest of your day, be good, and we'll meet up again for more fun soon. Until next time, that's today's Clearing out the Clutter, and we are outta here.
