June 2016

Hi everyone, Welcome back! How are you? How is it the end of June already? How are we at the mid-point of 2016 already? That's crazy. Warning: I asked BDH and Little Buddha to make the coffee extra strong again. I had my 4 billionth dream about not being able to find the right classroom last night, and there's also the issue of this alarm that's been going off in the neighborhood for about 10 hours now. At least, I assume that's what it is. A single "ding" every 10 seconds or so. It can't be a fire alarm, because... Read more →

Hi everyone, Welcome back! Come on in, have a seat. How are you? We're having a hard time getting started on this end. It was not a good night's sleep, and the birds in the Clutter Tree were louder than usual this morning. BDH and Little Buddha think it's because they're getting ready for their 4th of July party. Thankfully, the guys made today's coffee extra strong, so help yourself to a nice medium DD, and let's clear out some Wednesday Clutter. The Boston Red Sox beat the Tampa Bay Rays 8-2 yesterday. Rick Porcello did everyone a favor by... Read more →

Hi everyone, Welcome back! Come on in, have a seat. How are you? It looks pretty dark out there right now. That's fine, the garden could use another good watering. The coffee is ready, so help yourself to a nice medium DD, and let's clear out some Tuesday Clutter. The Boston Red Sox continue to struggle, losing 13-7 to the Tampa Bay Rays last night. That would be the same Tampa Bay Rays who were dealing with an 11-game losing streak before Monday. Red Sox starter Eduardo Rodriguez got blown out of the water, giving up nine runs and 11... You've Gotta Fight for Your Right to (Fill in the Blank Here)

I have generally found standing up for myself to be a challenge over the years. Not to say that I've been a "total" push-over, but holding my ground is just not something that comes easily to me. My general pattern has been to try to avoid conflict, wait too long to say something (if I say it at all), and then either marinate in some resentment stew for a while or finally respond and have it come out more harshly than it would have if I had just done it sooner. None of that is fun. However, even though it... Read more →

Hi everyone, Welcome back! Come on in, have a seat. What's that? Why am I wearing my sunglasses inside first thing in the morning? Funny story. I had to help Dad Clutter with a task yesterday that involved a lot of driving, and several vehicle changes. (I swear, it wasn't anything illegal.) I brought too much stuff with me (wallet, sunglasses (and case), shingles prescription, phone, and phone charger), and kept leaving some of it in the various vehicles. After a long day, I finally got back to the Northern Estate, sat and enjoyed the garden for a while...and then... Read more →

Hi everyone, Welcome back! Come on in, make yourself comfortable. How are you? Still dealing with the shingles issue here. Without getting into too much detail, it doesn't look as bad as it feels, so hopefully this will end up being on the more mild end of the spectrum and resolve itself soon. The big question now is how it impacts gardening time. I can deal with doing it either at the start or end of the day in order to keep out of the sun, but there's no way I'm skipping it entirely, so wish me luck! Right now,... Read more →

Hi everyone, Welcome back, and a happy Friday to you all! How are you? Bit of a cranky camper on this end at the moment. After a couple of days of questioning it, I confirmed yesterday that yours truly has shingles. Isn't that something only Terry Bradshaw gets? Fortunately it doesn't look all that bad, but it feels like a stripe of a sunburn that goes around my rib cage to my back, and that's just not fun. BDH and Little Buddha promised to do whatever they can to help, and that's always appreciated. Those two are the best. I... Read more →

Not Fancy, Just Functional

My iPhone has become increasingly difficult to charge over the last few weeks and months. It's been a challenge to make the connection between the charger and the phone. Doing so requires a soft touch that resembles Jeremy Renner defusing bombs in The Hurt Locker. I've done my best to make it work, but it seemed apparent that I was steadily losing the battle. To some extent, it made sense since the phone is coming up on its third birthday at the start of next month, and that's something like 90 human years for a smartphone, right? Still, I like... Hi everyone, Welcome back! How are you? Things are fine on this end. BDH, Little Buddha, and I were just talking about how we would like to have June slow down just a wee bit. We're in no rush to get through the nice weather, you know? Anyway, those two are off watching the birds in the Clutter Tree, but they were kind enough to make the coffee first. Help yourself to a nice medium DD, and let's clear out some Thursday Clutter. The good news is that the Boston Red Sox offense woke up last night after an extended... Read more →

Review: The Focus Group

Sara Benincasa has become a Clearing out the Clutter favorite over the last few years. She's a comedian and author, and she consistently produces material that's a terrific blend of informative, funny, and inappropriate, which we love here at Clutter Headquarters. I recently read her book, Agorafabulous!: Dispatches from my Bedroom, which details her battles with panic disorder and agoraphobia. It's a beautifully honest story. There are parts which are literally laugh out loud funny, and parts that are painfully raw, but it's all inspiring. A few months back, Sara tweeted that she was getting ready to get naked for...
