August 2015

Hi everyone, Welcome back! Come on in and have a seat. How are you? Did you have a good weekend? No complaints on this end. I know it's Monday, and that's never particularly exciting, but hey, the sun is shining, so maybe that's a sign of good things to come this week. Yeah, that's the ticket. It's also the last day of August, and I still don't understand where this month/summer went, but that's a whole other story. Oh, the coffee's ready. Help yourself to a nice medium DD, and let's clear out some Clutter! The Boston Red Sox put... Read more →

Hi everyone, Welcome back! Come on in, have a seat. How are you? Things are fine on this end. I know I'm biased, but I think the garden still looks nice, even though it's now down to about 30%. I can't help it, the plants just make me smile. I'm having a little difficulty understanding how August went by so quickly. Thanksgiving through Christmas usually feels like the quickest part of the year to me, but this month really went by in the blink of an eye. I'm also trying not to focus on the fact that it's darker about... Read more →

Friday Afternoon Clutter: Missing Allston Christmas

It occurs to me after writing this piece how completely privileged it is. My point was to highlight the positive chaotic energy of moving in Boston. I believe there's some renewal and re-energizing that comes through the annual reset of neighborhoods. The flip side is that a good portion of people are moving because they can't afford to stay in their current apartments, and the dream of buying in Boston is out of reach, and I totally missed that here. Both sides strike me as accurate portrayals of September 1, and we may come back to the flip side at... Read more →

Hi everyone, Welcome back! Come on in, have a seat. Happy Friday to you all! We made it through another week, huh? Good for us! August is coming to a close, which means one thing around here. Moving season has begun. No, Clutter's not going anywhere, don't worry. However, the moving trucks seem to be growing by the numbers now, so the great city-wide moving season has now begun. Good luck to everyone involved, because that is not fun. Okay, I'm being told that the coffee is ready, so it's time get to work. Everyone help yourselves to a nice... Read more →

Hi everyone, Welcome back! Come on in, have a seat. BDH and Little Buddha are making the coffee, but they should be here soon. It's a sunny morning at Clutter Headquarters, which is always a nice start to the day. I'm heading to Fenway Park tonight for movie night, so that's a little different. I wonder if they'll have it set up the same way as a concert. We'll see. Anyway, here are my boys. Help yourselves to a nice medium DD, and let's clear out some Thursday Clutter! Hey look at that, Rick Porcello returned to the major leagues... Read more →

Hi everyone, Welcome back! Come on in, have a seat. Happy National Dog Day, everyone! I need to pick up some treats for BDH in a bit. Did you get the rain we had yesterday, or no, because it was all directly over the Northern Estate? Man, that was impressive, though I could have done without the thunder again sounding like it was directly over my head. The garden is definitely set for this week. Anyway, it sounds like the coffee is ready, so help yourself to a nice medium DD, and let's clear out some Wednesday Clutter! The Boston... Read more →

Hi everyone, How are you? Come on in, have a seat. The coffee should be ready soon. It's looking pretty overcast out there this morning. As usual, it's supposed to rain today (which has been the forecast for 90% of Tuesdays this summer), but I gave the garden a watering yesterday just in case that doesn't actually happen. If it does rain, so be it, the plants could always use a little extra water for a few more weeks. Anyway, the coffee is here, so help yourself to a nice medium DD, and let's clear out some Tuesday Clutter! The... Read more →

Hi everyone, Welcome back! How are you? We're off to a slow start at the Northern Estate this morning. I don't know what happened. I was tired enough to go to bed at an early hour last night (my pride prevents me from saying exactly what time), and I think I fell asleep fairly quickly, but I must have woken up at least 40 times. Seriously, I think it was that many. That's why the coffee will be extra strong this morning, so consider yourself warned. Oh, sounds like it's ready. Help yourself to a nice medium DD, and let's... Clutter Goes to the Movies: The End of the Tour

The End of the Tour is the story of Rolling Stone writer David Lipsky (played by Jesse Eisenberg) interviewing author David Foster Wallace (played by Jason Segel) as Wallace wrapped up his book tour for his novel Infinite Jest in 1996. Long story short, it's basically a 106-minute long conversation, which is uncomfortable from start to finish, that you wish wouldn't end. The advance hype was right: This likely a career-changing role for Segel. I loved him in How I Met Your Mother, but his various comedic movie roles have generally ranged from "that's fine," to, "get off the screen,... Read more →

Hi everyone, Welcome back! Have a seat, make yourselves comfortable. How's your weekend going? No complaints here. I spent a little time cutting back the garden a bit yesterday while wondering where this summer went. How come winter didn't seem to go by so quickly? That's right, we had 500 feet of snow that seemed like it was never going to end. Anyway, the coffee is ready, so help yourself to a nice medium DD, and let's clear out some Sunday Clutter! The Boston Red Sox had their first defeat in the Dave Dombrowski era, falling 6-3 to the Kansas... Read more →
