February 2015

Hi everyone, Welcome back! Come on in, make yourself comfortable. I'm sorry we're connecting later than usual today. I felt like getting my workout and grocery shopping out of the way first thing this morning. There's still a lot of snow on the ground, but you can see that we're moving in the right direction. Most of the cars in the neighborhood that had been buried for the last month are now visible again, and most of the sidewalks that had been adventures to navigate are now dry, with a few notable exceptions. Oh, and I was able to ride... Read more →

Hi everyone, Welcome back, and a happy Friday to you all! We're almost done with February, my friends. I don't know what March has in store for us (though hopefully it includes full restoration of the commuter rail), but simply surviving this month feels like a win. I say we celebrate. BDH and Little Buddha have the coffee ready, so help yourself to a nice medium DD, and let's close out the week with a little Clutter. New Boston Red Sox prospect Yoan Moncada says his first choice of a position to play is second base. Mr. Moncada, meet, Dustin... Read more →

Hi everyone, Welcome back. What's the latest? The big excitement here is that this is the most I've seen of the driveway in about a month. I never thought pavement would be enough to almost make me weepy, but I was starting to forget what it actually looked like. The other happy news is that while there's still snow in every direction, the snowbanks in the back yard have receded just enough for the tops of the tallest plants to poke through to say hello. There's still a long way to go before the rest of the garden is visible... Read more →

Hi everyone, Welcome back. How are you? You're just in time, because the coffee is ready. Help yourself to a nice medium DD, and let's jump in and clear out some Wednesday Clutter. It will be one of the first major wins of this year's spring training if we really won't have to discuss future contracts for David Ortiz. The team seems eager to have him for the long haul, and hopefully the big guy has reached the point in his career where he's no longer interested in claiming he's being disrespected by the team and open to taking his... Hi everyone, Welcome back! Is the week treating you okay so far? I forgot to mention yesterday that I had a really nice belated birthday celebration with Dad Clutter this weekend. It's always nice to catch up in person with the big guy. You know what's also nice? The fact that it's not snowing. It may be cold/bleeping freezing out there (did I just see -15?), but we can handle that, particularly in the last week of February, knowing that better weather is on its way. Hey, the coffee is ready, so help yourself to a nice medium DD, and... Read more →

Hi everyone, Welcome back! How are you? We're up at the Northern Estate for a bit. It's just about as snowy here as it is at Clutter Headquarters, but a change of scenery every now and again still does the mind good. It was a treat to watch even a little bit of the snow start melting yesterday (as well as the icicles of death that were hanging off the roof). This is the most I've seen of the driveway in over a month. It sounds like we're in for another cold spell now, but that's okay, just as long... Read more →

Hi everyone, Welcome back! How are you? We're not even going to discuss the weather today. There's just no need for that. Any big plans for the day? Dad Clutter and I are going to the movies later this afternoon. We're going to see a historical drama, I think it's called Hot Tub Time Machine 2. Seriously, after the last batch of movies we've watched (including Wild, The Imitation Game, and American Sniper), we decided the next one had to some something silly as sort of a palate cleanser, and I think this will do the trick. However, we've got... Read more →

Originally published: March 8, 2012 While trying to clear out this morning's Clutter, I came across a number of articles about a new study dealing with how men and women perceive facial hair on a guy. All of the headlines were different. There were a few, "Men with beards command more respect," but there were more, "Men with beards look angry," and the most common headline was, "Women don't find men with facial hair as attractive." My guess is that these were all written by clean-shaven guys. It feels like a criticism that traces its roots back "squares" telling "hippies"... Read more →

Hi everyone, Welcome back, and a happy Thursday to you all. Are we all still in one piece? I might be getting a little loopy. I had copy some documents yesterday morning, and I got through seven pages before I realized they were all blank because I hadn't read the directions carefully. (What copier has you put the document in the top right corner?) The staff was kind enough to give me a refund of 82 cents for the blank pages, and I followed that up by leaving my credit card on the counter and not realizing it until early... Read more →

Hi everyone, Welcome back! Come on in, make yourself comfortable. I'm sorry it's a little cold in here, I think I turned down the heat a little too much when I went to bed last night. It should kick in soon. So how are you? I won't even mention today's weather forecast. It's got to end at some point. On the flip side, we're clearly getting more sunlight each day. It's still light out when I leave the gym now, and I think today was the first morning I didn't need to turn on a light when I sat down... Read more →
