Tuesday Clutter
07/02/2013
Hi everyone,
Welcome back. What's the latest? Week going okay so far? This is an odd one, since the 4th is on a Thursday, but many/most offices are open on Friday, so it's sort of a short week, but it doesn't really feel like it. Maybe I should do a small BBQ for BDH and Little Buddha. Thoughts? Anyway, enough of that silliness. Help yourself to a nice medium iced DD, and let's clear out a little Tuesday Clutter.
My heart goes out to the family and friends of the 19 Arizona firefighters who were killed in the line of duty on Sunday. For the life of me, I just can't begin to imagine the mindset where you see these flames burning out of control, feel that immense heat, and run towards the fire. These are true heroes.
Texas Governor Rick Perry has no intention of letting his constituents stop him a second time from ramming through a new anti-choice law designed to harm a woman's right to choose.
Meanwhile, Representative Tim Huelskamp (R-Kansas) has proposed a constitutional amendment to ban marriage equality. Huh, all we're missing is a GOP proposal for a national Confederate Flag holiday, and we'd have a triple crown of discrimination this week. Of course, it's still early.
Actually, this will do: Right-wing announcer Brit Hume is straight-forward about the fact that white voters are the only ones who matter to the GOP.
Citigroup has to pay Fannie Mae almost $1 billion to make up for a decade of bad home loans, yet there will be little outrage from the public. Hell, most of them won't ever know the story. The biggest crooks in this country wear nice suits.
Former (and hopefully returning) Boston Red Sox third baseman Will Middlebrooks is writing an online diary for ESPN Boston this season. This week's entry talks about his reaction to being demoted to the minor leagues. It's hard not to root for him to make it back to the big leagues soon, have the Sox trade Stephen Drew, movie Jose Iglesias back to shortstop, and let the good times roll.
Hope to see this again soon. (pic via espn.com)
Look out world, A-Rod's rehab has begun. If you're a Yankees fan, first off, what are you doing here? Second, seriously, can you have any reasonable expectations at all for him this year, or is it just, "hope he gets on the field and doesn't suck?"
Also on his way back, former Boston Bruins goalie Tim Thomas. I still feel bad about how things ended for him in Boston, even if it was entirely self-inflicted. It's just a shame, because his legacy should have been that of the goalie who led the B's to the Stanley Cup championship, instead of being known as the right-wing whackjob who tried to hold the team up for more money.
Is Superman dating the blonde from The Big Bang Theory?
Perhaps the one benefit of Jennifer Lopez singing for the dictator of Turkmenistan is that it will teach many Americans that there's a country called Turkmenistan.
I won't be seeing Brad Pitts's current movie, World War Z, but I don't about his next one where he plays a sketch attorney. What do you think, Clutterheads?
Okay kids, that's going to do it for now. The Rolling Stones were just in town a few weeks ago, and I remember reading this article about how thrilled the members of the Boston University Marsh Chapel Choir were to sing with them. It sounded like a great peformance, so why don't we see for ourselves with today's, "Song of the Day.
Yeah, that's pretty cool.
Thanks for stopping by, everyone. It was great to see you, as always. Try to stay cool out there, and make sure you come back again soon. For now, that's today's Clutter, and we are outta here.
