Monday Clutter

Hi everyone,

Welcome back, and a happy Monday to you all.  There's no time to waste, so let's get right to it.  Help yourself to nice medium iced DD, and let's clear out a little Clutter.

Boston Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester is skipping tonight's start against the Tampa Bay Rays and will pitch tomorrow instead.  Seems a little disconcerting that he just had more than a week off and still needs more rest, but if this will help him get back on track, so be it.  It's amazing how the future of the Sox this season is quickly looking like it's going to depend on John Lackey, Felix Doubront and Ryan Dempster more than Lester and Clay Buchholz.

Speaking of Buchholz, he's off to see the infamous Dr. James Andrews of Birmingham, Alabama for a second opinion on his lingering discomfort.  How often does a visit to Dr. Andrews not result in surgery?  I'll set the over/under at 15.5%.

You might think that this is the laziest Congress in the history of the country, unable to pass anything more complicated than naming a post office in some little town, but House Speaker John Boehner says you've got it all wrong.  As that famous saying goes, judge not what they pass, but rather, what they repeal.  Is that the most inspiring message or what?

Meanwhile, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia says that "judicial activism" is largely to blame for the Holocaust.  I want to laugh, but then I remember that this man sits on the highest court in our country, and I start to rock back and forth muttering to myself.

Stay classy, Geraldo Rivera.  Or at least stay clothed.

It seems like Burger King has struggled for years to find their image, and I can understand how frustrating that must be, but I'm not sure that including a marijuana pipe with a Whopper is the way to go.  Maybe I'm just being a "square?"

I'm guessing that even if you don't remember the name "Schoep," you will remember this picture of the arthritic dog and his owner that went viral last year.  Sadly, Schoep died on Wednesday.  BDH and Little Buddha would like to send their condolences to Schoep's family and friends.  He was clearly a loved pooch.

There's a lot of debate about Houston Astros pitcher Erik Bedard taking himself out of a game in the 7th inning when he was throwing a no-hitter.   I respect his decision, given that he's had three shoulder surgeries and was at 109 pitches.  No-no's are cool, but you're talking about a man's career, and he's got reason to be concerned about the possibility of doing long-term damage to himself.  I say it was a brave call, what's your vote, Clutterheads?

Matt Smith, Jenna-Louise Coleman, Steven Moffat and other Doctor Who big-wigs were at Comic-Con over the weekend.  The most interesting bit of news here is that Moffat confirmed something I've long suspected, which is that he's been "lying his ass off for months" about the 50th anniversary special.  No one loves a surprise like Moffat (sometimes to his detriment), and I'm guessing that Matt Smith and David Tennant are not the only two "Doctor's" to appear in the show.  Or is that just wishful thinking?  We'll find out for sure in...four more months.

By the way, after reading this running log of one of the Comic-Con presentations, I'm starting to think I might have to attend this thing myself at some point.  Is that going to be allowed if I don't want to wear a costume?   Or maybe I should go to one of those Doctor Who conventions in England.  Where should I go, kids?  You know you're coming with me either way.  Clutter loves company!

The cast of How I Met Your Mother also showed up at Comic-Con and gave a few hints about the show's final season.  I'm increasingly confident that they're going to make this idea work of every episode taking place during Robin and Barney's wedding weekend.  Also, the season premiere is two months from today, so let the countdown begin.

Okay kids, I hear the band warming up, so that's my cue that it's time to ramble on.  Thanks for stopping by, it was great to see you, as always.  Come back again soon, because you know how quickly BDH and Little Buddha get anxious when they don't see you.  Until next time, that's today's Clutter, and we are outta here.
