Saturday Clutter

Hi everyone,

Welcome back.  How are you?  What's the plan for the day?  It's going to be a busy day here.  I have to pick up a rental car as soon as we're done, and then I'm hitting the road!  I'm making a day trip to meet my friends Ben and Brian at Peabody's in Saratoga Springs, NY for some lunch.  It's the first time I've been back to Saratoga in over 10 years, and I'm excited to spend a few hours there, and enjoy some wings with the guys.  However, I first have to explain to BDH and Little Buddha that I'll be home tonight, because I can tell they're already getting a little anxious.  I'll take care of that later, though.  For now, help yourself to a nice medium DD, and let's clear out a little Saturday Clutter.

The best thing I can say about the Boston Red Sox losing 10-3 to the New York Yankees last night, is that it took less than three hours.  Other than that?  Let's move on.

Mitt Romney may hate England, but I think you have to give credit to any set of Olympic games that opens with Queen Elizabeth and James Bond.

Even Karl Rove can't believe that Mittens blew it in England.

President Obama shows the benefits of incumbency as he signed a pro-Israel defense bill right before Mitt Romney is scheduled to visit Israel.

It's been revealed that the Aurora shooter was seeing a psychiatrist.  Details are sketchy right now, but I hope there will be room in this story for a conversation about the importance of mental health services.

In a nice contrast to the recent controversy about the president of Chick-Fil-A's opposition to marriage equality, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and his wife MacKenzie are donating $2.5 million to help protect Washington's same-sex law.  I feel even better about my recent Amazon purchase now.

Oh!  Can we talk about that purchase for a second?  I know I mentioned this years ago, but I finally bought the Doonesbury 40th retrospective.  I had decided it would be a present to myself when I found my new job, and I ordered it about 10 minutes after that job was confirmed.  What a treat this thing is.  It's almost 700 pages long, and it's not every strip, but it's a great snapshot of the strip.  I've read many Doonesbury books for the last 30 years now, so much of this was familiar, but there were so many key strips that I had never seen, where certain characters were introduced, or major decisions were made.  I was like a kid in a candy store, and I felt proud of myself for not reading the whole thing in one sitting.  As a bonus, I ordered it from a third-party seller, and I'm sure this wasn't mentioned in the description, but it was autographed by Gary Trudeau!   If you like this comic strip, I wholeheartedly recommend this book, and if you don't like Doonesbury, we probably need to talk.

Sly Stallone says Expendables 2 is "a minor miracle," and I can't think of any reason to argue with that.

Dancing With the Stars is doing an "All Star" season with alumni from previous seasons.  However, Chris Jericho will not be appearing, so I am spared from having to watch, and you are spared from me recapping the show, so it's a win-win all around.

Is Hayden Panettiere playing Taylor Swift in her new TV show?

Okay kids, it's time for me to go.  Let me leave you with a rough sense of what's about to happen in a few hours with today's, "Clip of the Day."  (By the way, if there are any Clutterheads in Saratoga Springs, come hang out with us, and I'll be happy to buy your wings today!)

Thanks for stopping by, everyone.  It was great to see you, as always.  I probably won't be back in time for the first half of the Red Sox - Yankees game (will have to listen on the radio), but I should be back by dinner time, so feel free to come back then if you want.  Otherwise, we'll see you again soon.  As for now, that's today's Clutter, and we are outta here.
