Groundhog Day Clutter

It's Monday. There's a medium DD in my hand. That can only mean one thing. (Someone cue the music.) Say it with me now: It's time to Clear Out the Clutterrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!! Apparently George W. Bush is to blame for the Tea Party. One of the New Kids on the Block comes out of the closet. But he wouldn't be welcome at fast food chain Chick-fil-A. The weather forecast calls for clear skies all week. I'm kidding, it's totally going to sleet and snow again, appropriately enough, on Groundhog Day. Will House be back next year? We all know that Hugh... Read more →

Sunday Clutter

Hi folks, Happy Sunday to you all. I'm guessing that most of you are reading this after a late night. After all, no one parties like a Clutterhead parties. So grab yourself another medium DD, and once that kicks in, let's see what today's Clutter has to offer. Allston had its own version of "Old Faithful" yesterday. This came up in conversation with friends this weekend, but is any word used incorrectly more often than, "literally?" No, you did not "literally" just make my head explode. As much as the late WWE announcer Gorilla Monsoon was trying to build excitement... Read more →

Saturday Clutter

Hi folks, A happy Saturday to you all. It's great to be able to look out the windows of Clutter Headquarters and see nothing but blue sky. I'd be fine with not seeing another snowflake anytime soon, wouldn't you? Indeed, nothing but clear skies. What's that you say? A chance of snow this afternoon and later next week? I knew it was too good to last. Well, grab yourself a medium DD, and let's clear out some Clutter before the next flakes hit the ground. What's the connection between Bernie Madoff and the New York Mets? President Obama to the... Read more →

It's the morning of January 28th, 1986 in the village of Contoocook, New Hampshire. Yes, I said "village." We don't even have a traffic light here. God it's cold out. I'm 11 years old, and I'm sitting in my dad's car, waiting it for it to warm up, and the windshield to defrost, so Dad can take me to school. We live at the end of a dead-end street, and there's a gigantic snow mound in front of me thanks to the local plow. The snow-pile is much taller than I am. I'm in 6th grade, and my school is... Thursday Clutter

Hi folks, Welcome back, it's a pleasure to see you as always. Come on in! Thursday is already feeling like a multi-DD day. Let's enjoy the temporary break between snowstorms and see what we need to clear out today. President Obama gave a safe and upbeat State of the Union speech, and now he's being rewarded for it. A women's health care clinic struggles to stay open. The article makes it clear how important it is for an organization to have an active board who knows what they're doing. Another study shows that having an abortion doesn't cause mental health... Read more →

Wednesday Clutter

Hi folks, If there's snow coming, that must mean this is a day ending in the letter "y." Grab yourself a medium DD, and let's clear out a little Clutter before the fun begins, yet again. President Obama gave his second State of the Union address to Congress last night. It seemed like a pleasant review of everything he'd like to see the government do without many specifics. He was consistently upbeat and subtly throwing down the gauntlet to the GOP to show that they have anything to offer besides just saying no to everything (and so far, the GOP... Read more →

Tuesday Clutter

Hi folks, Happy Tuesday to you all. Before we get into today's Clutter, I just want to give a shout-out to the radiators in Clutter Headquarters who are doing their damnedest to make sure I don't die of hypothermia while the temperature outside drops to -400 degrees. They're nothing fancy, just blue collar radiators providing heat as best they can. If we all gave the effort that these champs are giving me right now, world peace would be right around the corner. Now grab a DD, and let's get down to business. Will Rahm Emanuel go from being the front-runner... Read more →

Chilly Monday Clutter

Hi folks, Happy Monday to you! Who's excited for this week? Anyone? Anyone? Come on, it's winter in New England, so what's your preference? Freezing temperatures? Yet even more snow? Some sleet thrown in to mix things up a bit? Lucky you, we have it all this week! This calls for multiple large DD's, so bundle up, grab your first/second/ninth coffee of the day (depending on when you read this), and let's clear out some Clutter! Congratulations to the Green Bay Packers for beating the Chicago Bears 21-14 to win the NFC championship and advance to the Super Bowl. It... Read more →

Sunday Clutter

Hi folks, Happy Sunday to you all. Grab yourself a medium DD, and then let's clear out a little Clutter before going out to brave the cold outside today. Sound like a plan? Here we go. Keith Olbermann's departure from MSNBC has apparently been brewing for a while. Do we want to start setting odds on where he appears next and when? Also, do any Clutterheads remember Olbermann as a news broadcaster in Boston, I believe for Channel 5? Apparently people like the Apple Apps Store, as it just had its 10 billionth download. On the 38th anniversary of Roe... Read more →

Sub-Zero Clutter

The biggest story of the day is clearly Keith Olbermann's sudden resignation from MSNBC and the end of "Countdown." I don't know what happened here, but I'm sure we'll hear about it at some point. I would have been more disappointed about this a year ago, but it's been about that long since I watched the show after years of faithful viewership. I wish I could explain exactly what turned me away, but in general, it was a sense that while Olbermann was an important counter-voice to Fox "News," particularly during the Bush years, it felt like it had been...
