Sunday Clutter

Happy Halloween, one and all. Grab yourself a medium DD with milk and sugar, maybe a couple of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and let's clear out some Clutter before Tom Brady and the New England Patriots take on Brett Favre, old friend Randy Moss, and the rest of the Minnesota Vikings. R.I.P to Ginny Sacrimoni of "The Sopranos." Porn star threatens to sue Charlie Sheen after his drug-fueled rampage. The question is, is this story from 1988, 1992, 2002 or 2010, because really, isn't there a fill-in-the-blank form for Sheen stories at this point? The Texas Rangers offense wakes up... Black Betty

We continue yesterday's tribute to blues legend Lead Belly with a look at another song of his that has been covered by a number of bands. You know you're on to something when very different versions of your song all sound great. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you "Black Betty." Of course we have to start with the original by Lead Belly himself: Now, the most popular version is probably the one by a band called Ram Jam (seriously). I remember this being one of the main songs of the movie "Blow" starring Johnny Depp. This clip was made by... Read more →

Friday Clutter

There are accusations that Haliburton knew its cement in the Gulf of Mexico disaster wasn't up to code. How many times has this company been accused of deliberately ignoring the fact that it was placing lives at risk? Has anyone from Haliburton ever gone to jail for anything? At all? Calls grow for the firing of the Arkansas school board member who supports gay students killing themselves. Anti-gay school board member will resign. The Dalai Lama would like to retire. A new Bloomberg poll shows voters don't really have the slightest idea about the current state of the economy. I... Read more →

Thursday Morning Clutter

Hi kids, Happy Thursday, everyone. I hope the week is treating you well so far. It can't be a good sign that I'm wearing a t-shirt and shorts in the last week of October. This may even call for a medium iced DD with milk and sugar. In the meantime, let's clear out some Clutter, shall we? The San Francisco Giants take Game 1 of the World Series from the Texas Rangers by a final score of 11-7. Not exactly the pitching duel people expected between Cliff Lee and Tim Lincecum, but still a fun game to watch. My favorite... Read more →

Can't Find My Way Home

I'll always remember Steve Winwood because he was having a comeback right around the time I first really started paying attention to popular music. He had several hit songs such as, "The Finer Things," and "Higher Love," the very mention of which immediately brings me back to a 7th grade dance. It's amazing the things that stick on our heads. Anyway, where was I? Winwood had a long career before that, including a stint in the early 1970's with Eric Clapton in a band called Blind Faith. The band only lasted one album, as Clapton had a serious case of... Read more →

Wednesday Morning Clutter

Dear Miami, I'm happy to take my Big 3 over your Big 3 any day of the week, and twice a day during the postseason. LeBron, what you should do is remember that you haven't actually won anything yet. Game 1 of the World Series is tonight. I like the fact that the Texas Rangers finally made it for the first time, but my heart is with the San Francisco Giants. They have the New Hampshire connections, their closer is crazy, it's been 50 years since they won the championship, and at the end of the day, everyone seems a... Read more →

Run, LeBron, Run, Clutter

Word on the street is that basketball season begins tonight. I've talked to a number of people about the Celtics this year, and their reactions have all been the same, "This team is scary good." Looking forward to an exciting season. I continue to believe that coach Doc Rivers should immediately be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame if he continues to keep these egos from combusting. In the meantime, LeBron James continues to whine about all those nasty people who said mean things about him this summer. Bonus points for the Don Johnson cameo, though. Does Manny Ramirez... Monday Clutter

I'm confused. I'm pretty sure the Patriots beat the San Diego Chargers 23-20 yesterday, but the game was so ugly, it felt for hours afterwards like they must have lost. No matter how many times the Chargers offense gave the ball to the Pats, they just couldn't take full advantage of it, and then everything seemed to fall apart in the 4th quarter. Thankfully they don't give style points for wins. A fun look at the improbable National League champions. For those of you who watched Giants closer Brian Wilson's interview after they won the pennant on Saturday, you might... Read more →

Happy Monday

Sometimes you need to quietly ease into a Monday. Take it nice and slow, and maybe start getting into the flow of things somewhere around 11:30 in the morning. No sudden movements. No loud noises. Who knows, perhaps it's a day best started by a nice cup of tea. This doesn't feel like one of those Monday's. The alternative is a Monday that you need to establish dominance over right from the beginning. A Monday where you wake up thinking, "One of us is going down today, Monday, and it sure as hell isn't going to be me." In honor... Read more →

Sunday Clutter

Happy Sunday, kids. Just a little Clutter to clear out while waiting for the Patriots to take on the San Diego Chargers this afternoon. Let's see what we've got. Congratulations to Brian Wilson, his beard, and the rest of the San Francisco Giants for beating the Philadelphia Phillies 3-2 and advancing to the World Series. I'm looking forward to seeing the Giants take on the Texas Rangers, and I think it's a good World Series for Major League Baseball, even if I suspect it might set a new record for low television ratings. You have a team who has never... Read more →
