TGIF Clutter

I'm not normally one to agree with the Boston Herald, or Ron Borges in particular, but I'm with him on this one. Someone has to take Dwight Howard out. Enough's enough. If his plan is to lead the Magic back by literally knocking out each member of the Celtics, it's time to return the favor. Best wishes for a full recovery to Gary Coleman. You almost no-hit the Phillies, and then can't get it together against the Royals? Really, Dice-K? Really? Ugh. Just throw a damn strike and see if they can hit it. Enough with this nibbling around the... Read more →

Nothing but a Good Time

I don't know anything about American Idol this year. Apparently last night was the season finale and a paint salesman won? However, what I can tell you is that it's nice to see Bret Michaels back in action. Cheers. Conservative fraud James O'Keefe is also now a convicted criminal. Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal maintains a strong lead over Linda McMahon in their U.S. Senate race. RIP Jarvis Williams. Dear AL East: We're baaaaaaack! Love, the Red Sox. In case you're curious, (and I'd be curious to know if anyone reading this blog is curious), "Sex and the City 2"... Read more →

Cowboy Up

There's plenty going on in the world. Oil spilling everywhere, the stock market making investors nauseous with its violent turns, Rand Paul trying to explain to everyone that it's not that he hates minorities, he just doesn't think the government should prohibit discrimination by businesses. These are all noteworthy stories. It's just that none of them are THE story of the day. Heck, even the Red Sox sweeping the Rays and the Celtics losing horribly to the Magic aren't THE story of the day. There's only one top story today, my friends. One story that takes precedence over all others.... Read more →

Wednesday Clutter

The Red Sox take the second game of the series and beat the Tampa Bay Rays 2-0 behind great pitching by Jon Lester. Oh, and how did they score the two runs? Who hit a double to drive them in? That's right, say it with me, the clear AL Slugger of the Month, Big Papi. Speaking of which, Big Papi, you just take your time. We'll all wait. Read this story about the UMASS Boston baseball team and then tell me you're not a fan. I dare you. It's amazing to me that the space shuttle program is about 30... Read more →

Tuesday Clutter

24 did a terrific job of setting up the movie. See you in a year or two, Jack Bauer. Impressive win for the Sox over the Tampa Bay Rays 6-1. Could it be that Clay Buchholz is finally starting to get his head together? Look out American League, if that's the case. I got home from the gym just in time for the top of the second inning of the Red Sox game, but Big Papi had already hit another home run by then. Damn it! This team finally seems to be clicking. Oh former Congressman Massa, the voices in... Read more →

The Dream is Over

It seems like endings are the theme of the day today. Goodbye, Jack Bauer. Thank you for saving us from every known threat on the planet over the course of eight days. I'm sorry you had to kill 4000 people to do it in the 40000 most brutal ways known to man, but these things happen. I only watched 1-2 episodes this year, but I'll probably still have to tune in for the ending. I still hope Keifer Sutherland will come to his senses and do the right thing (i.e. make another Young Guns movie), but I guess I'll just... Read more →

Laser Show. Relax.

Happy Monday, everyone. I hope you all had a good weekend. I read this quote from Dustin Pedroia defending Big Papi in the Globe whenever it came out a few weeks ago, and I thought it was great. The cockiness is pure Pedroia, and it must have lit a fire under Ortiz, because I think he started turning things around that week. Now that I've finally seen the clip, courtesy of Barstool Sports (Yes, I read Barstool, deal with it.), it's just too good not to post immediately. If anyone tries to get in your way today, this week, this... Read more →

The Night Belongs to Us

I took a trip to NYC about 17 years ago to see my friend Mike who was a student at Columbia University. We were trying to figure out what to do that Saturday night, and we saw an ad in The Village Voice that Jakob Dylan, son of Bob, and his band, The Wallflowers, were playing at a local bar. No one had really heard of Jakob or the band yet, but that sounded like a cool idea, and off we went. The bar was small. I'm guessing it seated no more than 50 people, tops. I think a couple... Saturday Clutter

A few bits of Clutter while Gregg Allman continues to play in the background: Pac-Man is 30 years old? Not sure how I feel about that...at....all....However, I will say that the game remains a timeless classic. Google had a version of it on their homepage yesterday, and it was just as much fun to play as it was when I was in first grade. The Washington Post has a great piece on the history of the game here. If you want to make a movie, how many people are involved in the approval process for your idea? 10? 20? 100?... Read more →

I'm No Angel

Happy Friday, one and all. You know, there's Clutter to be cleared, but there's really nothing that urgent. What it comes down to is this-- it's been a long week, but it's Friday, the sun is shining, and everyone is still standing. Everything else is a bit of an afterthought. So, we'll save the rambling for another time. Instead, we pull out an old favorite that's actually not a Van Halen tune ( I know, you're floored. Take a minute, let it sink in. Still with me? Ok, let's continue.) I may be from the Granite State, but even I... Read more →
