Concussions

Just a little Clutter to clear before this week begins, and we wait for the Pats-Saints showdown tonight. I'll never be hungry again. I'm sure that's not true, but right now I can't imagine eating another bite. Three Thanksgiving meals in three days were just too much. I went to the gym on Friday and Sunday, and that has to be the only reason I'm not rolling around from room to room right now. Mrs. Clutter and I just swapped all of our old kitchen items for the new ones we got as wedding presents. It's nice to have glasses,... Read more →

Gonzo is Gonzo

How's everyone feeling? Who's going to the gym today? For the life of me, I just can't understand why the Red Sox management can't get it together when it comes to the shortstop position in general, and Alex Gonzalez in particular. Have fun in Toronto, Gonzo. Does Theo have a bet with someone about how many shortstops he can sign per year? What's the plan now--Jed Lowry? Great. The over/under on the total number of games Lowry plays next year is 30. Never mind, we got Tug Hulett. I was worried there for a second. Now I can sleep easy.... Read more →

Sunny, Soda and Senate Seats

F/X continues to crank out some of the most entertaining shows on TV. I was recently reminded how funny, "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" is. Wikipedia has a terrific explanation of the show, but the long story short is that it's about a group of friends who run an Irish Bar in South Philadelphia and proceed to get into inappropriate mischief every week. I'm not doing it justice, but you can watch it Thursday nights at 10pm, or on On Demand. Plus, Danny DeVito is comedy gold whenever he appears on-screen. It's clear that the best thing I've done for... Read more →

Lambert, Laurie and Other Shots

Just clearing out a little Clutter, with a large French Vanilla from DD, before getting ready for Thanksgiving, aka the kick-off to the "crazy season." I don't watch American Idol, and I've never seen Adam Lambert perform, but I've heard this story before. It was called Elvis Presley in the 50's, David Bowie in the 70's, Boy George in the 80's and the list goes on. Lambert is just the latest singer to make everyone uncomfortable, and he'll reap the benefits of his "scandalous" performance at the AMA's for a long time to come. It's so predictable that shows like... Read more →

Short Week Monday Shots

Just a few quick bits of Clutter while wondering how much trouble I can get into in a short work week. The Mike Lowell rumors continue, and so does my sadness. Who is going to host "Casino Night" if he's not here? Have I mentioned how much I dislike change? Oh, I have? Never mind, then. Glad to see the Patriots have a collectively short memory. It was good to see them rebound from last week, and it's always fun to watch them destroy the Jets. My dad said he almost felt bad for quarterback Mark Sanchez, after he threw... Read more →

Forests, Harps and other Sunday Morning Shots

Good morning. A little bit of Clutter to clear before I get a large DD with milk and sugar and The Globe. Interesting story with the news that Dianne Patrick endorsed Congressman Mike Capuanoin the race to replace Ted Kennedy. Will this improve Capuano's standing with women voters at all? I'm more curious to see if there's any kind of fall-out from this in Governor Patrick's presumed bid for reelection next year. So incredibly appreciative of the wedding gifts people have sent us. Equally mortified by how wasteful the stores are with their shipping. I swear we got some utensils... Read more →

Pain Will Be Your Lab Partner

I'm sorry, I know I said we were done for the week, but this video was just brought to my attention, and there's no way I can hold off on posting it. Mick Foley is a professional wrestling legend, a New York Times bestselling author, and he might be the only liberal Democrat in the history of wrestling. In addition to being famous for the incredible abuse he's put his body through over the years (including falling off a 20 foot high cage), he's known for giving particularly clever and unusual interviews (much better than the generic, "I hate you,... End of the Week Shots

Oh Friday, I thought you'd never come. Hello old friend, it's really good to see you once again. Big Papi calls for the Sox to power up. Hopefully he'll make the most of a healthy off-season and lead the charge next year, thus showing everyone he's still got it. A healthy Papi, playing in his contract year, with a chip on his shoulder, could be a truly impressive sight. I'm worried about this week's pick in the football pool. This might be the upset of the year that always knocks me out. I can't even think about it right now...... Read more →

Mike Lowell, Concussions, TGIT Shots

Thank God It's Thursday. The end of the week is almost within sight. Interesting interview with Terry Francona here. I share his enthusiasm for bringing Jason Bay and Alex Gonzalez back. I don't know why I find it so hard to get excited about the idea of John Lackey coming to Boston. I get that he's a good pitcher, but he seems really hard to root for. Most interesting, Tito certainly made it clear that he expects Big Papi to work harder in the off-season. I don't know what several friends and immediate members of my family will do if... Who is That Guy?

I'm at the gym yesterday sweating off the craziness that was the theme of the day. I'm on the elliptical machine, watching VH1's "Top 100 One Hit Wonders of the 1980's." That's a solid program which makes it easy to pass the time while cranking up the old heart rate. Everything is going fine until we get to somewhere around #40 with Billy Vera and the Beaters playing "At This Moment." In case you're too young to remember, this song was big in 1986 when it played a central role in a "Family Ties" episode involving Alex P. Keaton and... Read more →
