Sunday Clutter: Trump, Mark Zuckerberg, Boston Red Sox, Brock Lesnar, Game of Thrones, Celebrate with the Devil, and more
Welcome back! Come on in, have a seat. How's your weekend going so far? Things got off to a rocky start on this end when I tweaked my elbow at the gym Saturday morning. All it took was one brief careless move with a barbell. I was a little tentative about moving my arm for the rest of the day, but it seems to have settled down now. Besides that, things are good. The flowers are starting to come out full force in the garden, and it's a great mix of colors in every direction. On top of everything else, we've got coffee. There's a fresh pot on the counter, so help yourself to a nice medium DD, and let's clear out some Sunday Clutter.
North Korea officials and U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo have conflicting versions of how their meeting regarding denuclearization went on Saturday, and these days, the safe move is to trust the interpretation of anyone who doesn't come from the Trump administration.
As of yesterday, the Trump administration is withholding over $10 billion in Affordable Care Act payments to insurance companies, claiming a February court decision regarding the risk adjustment payments is keeping them from disbursing the money. Outside experts don't buy the argument, since another court decision upheld the formula, and it appears that this is simply Trump's latest attack on Obamacare.
The Trump administration can't get it together to comply with a court order ordering immigrant children be reunited with their parents in a timely fashion. One has to wonder, is this just incompetence, or racism combined with a complete lack of respect for the judiciary? Perhaps it's both.
It looks like Paul Manafort's upcoming bank fraud trial will have a Trump connection. The proceedings begin on July 25.
Here's your reminder that November 6 is 121 days away. Don't forget to vote.
In case you were wondering how much valuable your personal information is, Mark Zuckerberg is now worth $81.6 billion. He's the third richest person in the world, behind Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates, and just ahead of Warren Buffett.
I swear, you can totally trust me with all of your information. (pic via variety.com)
David Price had a lot to prove after his disastrous outing against the New York Yankees on July 1. Unfortunately, he failed, hitting three batters and giving up four runs in 4 2/3 innings against the Kansas City Royals. However, the Red Sox scored 11 runs in the final four innings of the game and beat the Royals 15-4 yesterday. The Sox offense generated 16 hits, and every batter in the lineup had at least one RBI. There was a bit of other bad news yesterday, as Christian Vazquez broke a finger while sliding into second base in the 7th inning. The catcher is heading to the DL, and we wonder if this means Blake Swihart will get some consistent reps behind the plate as Sandy Leon's backup. In any case, Rick Porcello takes the mound for Boston this afternoon as the Sox go for the sweep against the Royals.
It looks like Brock Lesnar is returning to the UFC to challenge heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier. Lesnar still has to serve a suspension from failing a drug test, so the fight would be in December at the earliest. In any case, this should be good news for WWE fans who have had to put up with Lesnar working a limited schedule for years and completely devaluing the company's universal championship in the process. Presumably Lesnar will drop that belt before he returns to the octagon.
Sorry to hear that Steve Ditko died on Friday. The co-creator of Spiderman and Doctor Strange was 90 years old. Our condolences go out to his family, friends, and fans.
It's nice to see that former Archie artist Bob Montana is getting a statue in Meredith, New Hampshire, where he lived for 35 years.
Maisie Williams said goodbye to Game of Thrones on Instagram with a picture that is sure to cause a lot of speculation among GoT fans. We know Williams has other projects coming up, including a new X-Men spinoff movie, but we're still hoping she'll return to Doctor Who at some point down the road.
Okay kids, that's going to do it for now. Question: What do you get when you cross Kool & the Gang with Van Halen? It turns out that you get a track which could dominate the charts this summer called, "Celebrate with the Devil," and it's today's, "Song of the Day."
You know you'll be humming that for the rest of the day. You're welcome.
Thanks for stopping by, everyone. It was great to see you, as always. Enjoy the rest of your day, be good, and we'll meet back here again for more fun soon. Until next time, that's today's Clearing out the Clutter, and we are outta here.
