December 2017

Hi everyone! Well, the calendar says it's December 31, so I guess we're done with the year, huh? Part of me thinks 2017 flew by in a few seconds, and part of me feels like Donald Trump has been ruining this country for decades. BDH and Little Buddha aren't sure where 2017 went either, but they know they loved hanging out with you for another year! Bet you can't guess what they made you to show their appreciation: That's right, coffee! There's a fresh pot ready to go, so help yourself to a fresh cup, and let's check out the... Read more →

Hi everyone, Welcome back! How are you? Things are good at Clutter Headquarters at the moment. The heat is working, the sunsets continue to get later, and yours truly had a good annual physical yesterday, so it looks like we're closing out 2017 on a positive note. The one downside is that we can't see out of most of the windows because of the frost. However, when I mentioned that to BDH and Little Buddha, they said, "That's fine, because we have everything we need inside, including coffee!" Can't argue with that. Speaking of which, the guys made you a... Read more →

Hi everyone, Welcome back! Come on in, make yourself comfortable. We can't see out of most of the windows because of the frost, but thankfully, the heat is on, so it's nice and toasty in here at the moment. To make things even better, BDH and Little Buddha just made some coffee, so grab a nice medium DD, and let's clear out some Thursday Clutter! Wait, wait, wait, wait. The Pittsburgh Steelers barely played James Harrison this year, then they cut him from the team, and now Harrison's former teammates are blasting him for signing with the New England Patriots?... Hi everyone, Welcome back! Come on in, have a seat. How are you? We hope that those of you who celebrated Christmas had a great day. BDH and Little Buddha each got a few books, some new Red Sox shirts, and a couple of Doctor Who DVD's, so they're happy campers. Of course, we also watched the Doctor Who Christmas Special, so all in all, it was a good day, and we didn't even grumble (that much) about all of the shoveling we had to do on Monday. Well, that "one" of us had to do. So, now we're into... Read more →

It's been almost six months, but the 12th Doctor is finally back for one last adventure, as he tries to fight off another regeneration. The TARDIS has brought him to the South Pole, where he runs into the 1st Doctor, who is also resisting his own change. The two of them must postpone their decisions, because someone is interacting with the nearly-dead and periodically freezing time along the way. Is this a proper send-off for Peter Capaldi? Let's discuss! One last adventure. (pic via Observations (Warning: Spoilers ahead.) We're starting on a positive note, because Twice Upon a Time... Read more →

Hi everyone, Welcome back! Merry Christmas Eve Eve! How are you? Well, we weren't planning on sorting through the headlines today, but the weather has thrown a wrench into our travel plans. BDH and Little Buddha only needed to read one article urging drivers to stay off the roads if possible, before they took off their winter coats and hats and headed off to make some coffee. Speaking of which, I'm being told it's ready to go, so help yourself to a nice medium DD, and let's clear out some Saturday Clutter! By the way, don't forget to check out... Read more →

2017 was a terrific year for the Clearing out the Clutter staff (the current erosion of democracy notwithstanding.) We continue to look for new stories to tell, and we are grateful as always for those of you who take the time to stop by and hang out with us. Clutter had visitors from all 50 states and 80 other countries this year. Some came by for the news, some were Doctor Who fans, others wanted to talk about the Boston Red Sox, mental health, or other subjects, and everyone enjoyed the coffee! As 2017 winds down, we debated whether or... Read more →

Hi everyone, Welcome back! It's the first day of winter, so you know what that means - daylight starts making its comeback tomorrow! That calls for a celebration, or at least some coffee. BDH and Little Buddha just made a fresh pot, so help yourself to a nice medium DD, and let's clear out some Thursday Clutter. Chad Finn has it right: The value of Boston Red Sox center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr.'s amazing defense doesn't get enough credit from fans. If the Sox do decide to trade him at some point, they should be looking for an elite player... Read more →

Hi everyone, Welcome back! Come on in, have a seat. How are you? We're all a little giddy here at the moment. First off, tomorrow is the shortest day of the year, so once we get through that, it's time to start adding on the sunlight! Yes, it's still only December, and it will still be dark around 4:30 in the afternoon, but 30 seconds here, and 30 seconds there, and suddenly it's not dark until 4:45! Every little bit helps, and we can't wait. The other big news is that BBC America's annual Doctor Who marathon has begun! We've... Read more →

We've all heard the stories: Bill Murray was spotted joining a kickball game. Bill Murray crashed a bachelor party, gave a toast, and disappeared. Bill Murray jumped behind a bar and poured people shots for 30 minutes before vanishing into the night. There have been so many of these tales over the last four decades, one starts to wonder if they're more urban legend than fact. However, they're true, and they're well-documented in the book, The Tao of Bill Murray: Real-Life Stories of Joy, Enlightenment, and Party Crashing, by Gavin Edwards. Edwards, a Rolling Stone editor, chronicled these amusing stories... Read more →
