August 2017

Hi everyone, Welcome back! The calendar says it's August 31, so we're now done with 66% of the year. Anyone have big plans for the last 33%? We've got a couple of things in mind here, but nothing too crazy. BDH and Little Buddha don't need much to keep them happy, and if they're good, I'm good, so we'll see what happens, but here's to a productive final third of 2017. That's clearly going to involve coffee. Fortunately, we have a fresh pot ready to go, so help yourself to a nice medium DD, and let's clear out some Thursday... Read more →

Hi everyone, Welcome back! Come on in, have a seat. How's your week going? I'm still trying to understand how August went by so quickly. Hell, I'm trying to understand how the whole summer went by so quickly. How come winter is never this fast? Grumble, grumble. I was supposed to water the lawn this morning, but it looks like it might rain, so we'll hold off on that for a bit. In the meantime, we've got plenty of news to sort through and coffee to drink! BDH and Little Buddha made you a fresh pot, so help yourself to... Read more →

Chris Jericho is a busy man. He's been a professional wrestling star for almost 30 years, he's a New York Times best-selling author, the lead singer for the heavy metal band Fozzy, a podcast host, and a former contestant on ABC's Dancing with the Stars, along with a number of other gigs. Jericho can now add, "life coach" to his resume with the release of his new book, No is a Four Letter Word (How I Failed Spelling but Succeeded in Life.) In this book, Jericho explains 20 of the guiding principles that have helped him get to where he... Read more →

We can't do it. We're still feeling stressed from Sunday for reasons we're not going to get into here today, and we just can't do it. We can't muster up any enthusiasm to go through the headlines and find out what's wrong with the world this morning. We're sorry, it's just not happening today. We don't want to spend the last Monday of August talking about how the Red Sox were swept by the Orioles, the most recent ways that the gigantic waste of space in the White House is awful, or whatever else is bad about today. We're not... Read more →

The Story of Ed

Hello to you, my good friend Ed Why are your eyes so completely red With your hands clasped tightly behind your head Yes, I heard what was said It's not true, you're not better off dead Down the wrong path, you've been lead What your soul needs is to be fed We start tomorrow, but for now, to bed I'll see you soon, my good friend Ed. Hi everyone, Welcome back! Come on in, have a seat. How are you? I'm moving a little slowly at the moment. Ended up watching the McGregor - Mayweather fight after all (more on that in a bit.) By the time I got home and my brain shut down enough to go to sleep, I think it was somewhere around 2:00 in the morning, which is so past my bedtime. That's okay though, it's distracting me from the fact that it's slightly chilly out and that gardening season is winding down. Plus, we've got coffee, plenty of coffee. Help yourself to... Hi everyone, Welcome back! Come on in, have a seat. Happy Friday! Any big plans for the weekend? I don't think we have anything too crazy on on the schedule here at the moment. Mostly just enjoying the garden while we still can this year. Where does the time go? Well, I can't dwell on that too much right now, or I'll be bummed out for the rest of the day. BDH and Little Buddha suggest that I focus on the fact that it looks like today should be a lovely day weather-wise. They're so smart. They also recommend that... Read more →

I'm intrigued by today's reports that Google has partnered with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) to develop a feature designed to help increase the likelihood that someone who may be depressed will see a doctor about treatment. The way it works is that if someone searches for "depression" on their mobile phones, a box will appear asking, "Are you depressed?" If the person enters, "yes," then they will be directed to something called the PHQ-9, which is a validated questionnaire which may help the user understand how severe their depression might be. According to the news, the point... Read more →

Hi everyone, Welcome back! How are you? BDH and Little Buddha were just asking me what time you would get here. Hanging out with all of you is really one of the highlights of their day, you know. Their faces just light up when they see you. They made you a fresh pot of coffee, so help yourself to a nice medium DD, and let's clear out some Thursday Clutter. The Boston Red Sox beat the Cleveland Indians 6-1 last night. The game was closer for most of the night than the score indicates, because the Sox scored four runs... Read more →

Hi everyone, Welcome back! Come on in, have a seat. How are you? We're all fine on this end, although we're convinced someone rang our doorbell at 5:00 this morning, so we're wondering what that was all about. That's okay though, it's a good distraction from the growing number of leaves that are showing up in the driveway and in the garden. Not ready for that at all. Not at all. In more positive news, we have plenty of coffee. There's a fresh pot ready to go, so help yourself to a nice medium DD, and let's clear out some... Read more →
